The main port in Perú is right next to the capital and is called Callao, a city port of more than one hundred years of history linked to the history of the Viceroyalty and Republic of Perú.
The port of Callao is the only way of getting to Lima by boat. It is located in the constitutional province of the same name, but to all intents and purposes it is in the greater Lima area as it is surrounded by the city and there are no marked delimitations when walking through both these cities. They are, however, 2 separate jurisdictions.
If you want to come to Lima by boat, it has to be as part of a cruise as there are no ferry services with neighbouring cities or other countries.
For some ten years now different cruise ships have arrived at the Callao port, a lot more in the last two years arriving at the North Terminal managed by APM Terminals. Among the cruise lines that come the most well known are Celebrity Cruises, Cunard, Holland America, Princes Cruises and Silversea among others.
Due to its proximity with Lima the tourists arriving on the cruises tend to take day trips around the historical centre of Lima, or to walk around the traditional districts like Barranco and Miraflores that are 17km outside of Callao. And as the airport is in Callao itself it?s easy to get to the airport from the port as they are only separated by 10km.
